On Course Luncheon - Sept. 14, 2004

ON COURSE LUNCHEON - Sept 14, 2004

Chancellor ThomasOn Course User's Group received a warm welcome from Chancellor Thomas as he expressed his desire to see a continued effort focused on the
advancement of student learning outcomes.

Participants of the On Course Workshop in August almost unanimously indicated an interest in continued conversations centered around teaching excellence and improving student learning outcomes. CERTI has responded to their desire by forming a user's group dedicated to discovering and implementing best practices in education.

The On Course User's Group (OCUG) held its first working luncheon in September with a group of twenty dedicated faculty and staff. The agenda consisted of opening remarks by Chancellor Thomas and a working lunch with small group discussions of the following questions:

1. What strategies from the On Course Workshop have you successfully implemented?
2. What strategies have you tried that were not so successful?
3. Which strategies would you like to try next semester?

After lunch, a representative from each table shared their experiences incorporating these strategies into their classroom. Unfortunately, time ran out before everyone who wanted to participate was able to present their comments. In closing, we asked the participants to give us feedback on today's session as well as suggestions for the next OCUG luncheon. A summary of those responses will be ready by the first week in October.

Certi Luncheon tableDiscussions continued well into the next hour as topics of how to implement certain structures were held by Charles Morris, Carl Burns, Tammy Pratt and Thomas Schuman.
