General Information for HGR Participants
BILLING INFORMATION
Students should expect to receive separate bills for both tuition and housing.
Tuition Billing & Payment Schedule:
Students registered prior to April 28 will be billed on April 27. Bill payment will be due May 15. (Students can choose to pay in full or make summer installments due May 15 & June 15. )
Students registered between April 25 - May 24 will be billed on May 25. Bill payment will be due in full June 15.
Students registered on or after May 25 -June 24 will be billed on June 25. Bill payment will be due in full July 15, along with the first fall tuition installment.
Housing Bills: Housing bills will be issued after students check-in for HGR.
What is “Hit the Ground Running"?
Hit the Ground Running is a three week summer learning program that offers new students an exciting perspective on learning that will sharpen and enhance their academic skills. This program is an excellent opportunity for incoming students to learn about coursework expectations, campus life, and community involvement at Missouri S&T. Participating students will take courses in Chemistry, Mathematics and English for a 3 hour course credit, learn about research and leadership opportunities, and participate in team building activities and field trips. The experience helps students develop leadership skills, make new friends and develop constructive strategies for succeeding academically at Missouri S&T.

What’s in it for you?
By joining HGR, you will get an advanced start on your freshman year by taking courses in Chemistry, Mathematics, and English for a 3-hour course credit. You will be engaged in teamwork activities as you become acquainted with the university and the Rolla community. As you participate in leadership, academic & social activities you will make new friends and be challenged to develop and implement constructive strategies for your success at Missouri S&T. Room and Board $574.00 Students will stay in the Thomas Jefferson Residence Hall. The housing fee includes room & board in T.J. Hall

Subjects Covered by HGR
Introduction to University Writing
This course will provide an overview of university-level fundamental writing principles. Classroom lectures and learning objectives will be based on the application of present-day written communication requirements.
Introduction to University Chemistry
A comprehensive study of the general principles of chemistry will be presented with emphasis on chemical nomenclature, periodicity of the elements, chemical reactions, and reaction stoichiometry, chemical bonding and applications.
Introduction to University Mathematics
The mathematics course will review pre-calculus topics including algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry and probability theory. Applications from a variety of fields and group problem-solving will be emphasized. In addition to reviewing basic concepts, students will be exposed to the demands of Missouri S&T-level mathematics courses. They will gain an appreciation of the ways mathematics is used in engineering and science. Small group recitation sections will be used to support course content learning, with special focus on strategies for studying to achieve course objectives.
Academic and Leadership Development
Students will engage in dynamic teamwork activities designed to assist in the acquisition of critical academic skills and the development of strategies that support a successful transition to the Missouri S&T environment. Specific activities include student team development, the utilization of academic resources, mentor groups, and student involvement in campus life and the Rolla community.
