Introduction to Research & Experiential Design Program

The Office of Undergraduate Studies is in the process of developing and implementing an Introduction to Research & Experiential Design Program.

The Freshman Introduction to Research program is one of the initial opportunities for students to learn about the broad range of research activities Missouri S&T faculty are involved in and to discover how students may participate in learning experiences that connect their fundamental studies with applied problem solving. The program seeks to promote the following outcomes:

  • Faculty-student interaction
  • Interaction of students with common interests
  • Beneficial insight on how fundamental learning is applied to solving real-world problems
  • Insight on how students may participate in research projects

The Sophomore Introduction to Research program seeks to engage students to discover how they may become involved in active research and problem-solving activities. The expected outcomes of the program are to:

  • Encourage student-faculty relationships
  • Promote increased campus ownership by students
  • Encourage informal mentoring by faculty through an organized promotion of research introduction within the department of the student’s major
  • Provide students with valuable out-of-class learning experiences
